Myopia control

iQ MiYO

Uśmiechnięte dziecko w soczewkach kontrolujących krótkowzroczność

The iQ MiYO lens was created for children struggling with myopia, and its task is to slow down the progression of this vision defect in a non-invasive, safe and effective way.

Myopia usually appears between the ages of 5 and 16 and tends to worsen as the child grows, stabilizing around the age of 18. Uncorrected myopia can affect a child’s school performance and overall quality of life, but can also lead to the development of pathological myopia, which results in irreversible deterioration of vision and often cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. That is why the speed of parents’ reactions to disturbing signals in the child’s behavior, such as problems with concentration at school or squinting when looking into the distance, is so important, because this makes it possible to detect myopia at an early stage, which helps avoid permanent vision problems.

Currently, myopia is often corrected using glasses with single vision lenses, which provide the child with clear vision, but do not help slow the progression of myopia.
The special design of the iQ MiYO lens, by combining two vision zones, allows children to have the best possible visual experience while effectively slowing down the progression of myopia.

Myopia interferes with the ability of light rays to focus directly on the retina, causing blurred vision. A standard single vision lens corrects myopia but does not slow its progression.
The special design of the iQ MiYO lens ensures full correction of myopia in the central part of the retina and peripheral myopic defocusing, which translates into slowing down the progression of myopia.

New technology

The power distribution of the iQ MiYO lens covers two zones – the area of central vision without blur, taking the shape of an ellipse with a diameter of 7 mm, with stable refraction in a small space around the geometric center. Thanks to this, central vision is clear and sharp.

Around the first zone there is a myopia treatment zone with asymmetric peripheral blur.
By working together these carefully calculated areas, children receive the best possible visual experience while effectively controlling the progression of myopia.

Refraction along the vertical axis of the lens remains stable with a strength similar to the geometric center. Asymmetric additional refraction is introduced along the horizontal axis of the lens on the nasal and temporal sides. The addition on the nose side of the lens starts at 6 mm and reaches a maximum value of 1.50 D at 25 mm from the optical center. A higher level of blur is introduced on the temporal side of the lens with a progressive addition that starts at 4 mm from the geometric center and reaches a maximum value of 1.80 D at 25 mm.

Reduced unwanted astigmatism in the lateral areas of the lens ensures a comfortable visual experience. Thanks to the specific geometry of the progressive lens, the lens presents a natural and aesthetic appearance, very similar to a single vision lens. Additionally, due to the positive power in the peripheral area, the lens is thinner than a standard lens, which makes it look extremely aesthetic.

Clinical tests

The effectiveness of iQ MiYO lenses was assessed in the first clinical study, conducted among European children struggling with myopia aged 6 to 14 years, for a period of 1 year.

The study produced surprising preliminary results. Eye elongation, measured by the increase in axial length, was as much as 39% lower after 12 months in people wearing iQ MiYO lenses compared to a standard single vision lens.

* iQ MiYO lenses are currently being tested as part of a controlled, randomized and double-masked clinical trial conducted by the Universidad Europea de Madrid on the Spanish population and in accordance with the recommendations of the International Myopia Institute13. Preliminary results from this clinical trial include a sample of 83 children divided into 2 groups: 42 children wearing single vision lenses and 41 children wearing IOT’s myopia correction solution for a 12-month follow-up period.
